Introduction: Paris Texas or France?

Howdy Y'all, I'm Sarah Trapp!
-I say "howdy" and "y'all" because I'm a proud Texan, I'm from a small town named Paris, Tx, I love to tell people I'm from Paris without saying Texas, because without a doubt every time someone will think Paris, France, and that makes me giggle inside because if you listen to my accent I'm clearly from Texas. If you ever find yourself driving though Paris, you have to make sure you stop and take a photo with our one-of-a-kind Eiffel Tower, it is pretty awesome because it has a huge bright red cowboy hat at the top of it!
-Even though I'm from Texas, I have been a sooner fan my whole life (BOOMER) even as a second grader I named my dog Okie.  I actually have two dogs, one Okie and the other Tex, you see my household at the time was split, my mom and I were Oklahoma fan and my brother and father were Texas fans, so we couldn't just settle with one dog.  Like I said I got my dogs when I was in the second grade and they are still alive today! They are the oldest golden retrievers I have ever seen at almost 15 years old, and they are my heart and soul.
(Personal photo- Tex/Okie Christmas 2014)
-Tex is on the left and Okie is on the right. Tex has had allergies his whole life so he isn't the prettiest Golden, but we still love him anyway!

  (Personal photo, Okie, March 2015)
-Okie is more of my dog, as Tex is more of my brothers dog.

-I am living my dream attending the University of Oklahoma, and I will be graduating this May with a degree in Sociology. (WHOO!) I recently just switched from early childhood education to sociology, and as much as I love the education system I love sociology more! I find myself to be an observant person, and sociology is an area of study that relates to everyday life.  I love the fact that whatever daily activities I have, whether it be the going to the movies or school, I can relate sociological concepts that I have learned.  After I graduate I will be working towards getting into a masters program for social work.  Durning grad school I hope to learn how to help and approach children and families in difficult times.  I plan on receiving my LPC (Licensed Professional Councilor) so that I can make a difference in someones life by helping them.
(Personal photo, of me and my roommate receiving our OU class rings! I am on the left and Stevie on the right)

-Some fun facts about myself:
1. I love to watch movies, any kind of movie really it doesn't matter, because there's nothing better than cuddling up in blankets with a big bowl of popcorn!
2. I also love to travel, I have been privileged to have traveled to some pretty cool places in my life, but the coolest place I will travel to, will be this summer when I spend a month in Ireland for study abroad! 3. I love to take photos and edit them! It is probably my favorite hobby to do, and in my future I might even start some sort of small side business for it. I even have a name for it already "Trapped in the Moment", get it because my last name is Trapp. (perfect, right?)
4. My favorite food is most definitely spaghetti, I would even eat it on a first date! My least favorite food is anything that has cream cheese in it, I know, it's unbelievable and crazy, but there is just something about cream cheese and my taste buds that don't get along.
5. I'll end today with my favorite color, which is yellow! If it can be made/bought in yellow that's the one I want! I could easily be spotted walking around campus since my backpack, computer, phone case, and headphones are all yellow! It's just such a bright and fun color, I love it!

  1. Hey Sarah! Congrats on graduating.I've got another year :(. Counseling is an awesome area to go into, and I hope you do great at it.

I'll have you know that I have actually heard of Paris, TX before. My mom's a CPA, and she has an annual audit down there. I've heard that it's a sprawling metropolis, about like my hometown, Ada.

Dog people represent! I feel for Tex. My pug, Dolly (I don't have any pictures of her with me), has had similar problems. She's starting to get old, and she recently got diabetes. She's great though, classic roly poly pug.

  2. Hi Sarah! I’ve heard of Paris, Texas before but never actually met anyone from the town so it’s nice to “meet” you. I must start out by saying that your puppies, Tex and Okie, are BEAUTIFUL. That is so exciting that you’re graduating this May – congratulations! I also love travelling and have looked into the Ireland program that OU offers; it looks like a great trip.

  3. Hi Sarah. I have only visited Paris Texas once but it seemed like a small town. Did you like growing up there? I grew up in Plano, Texas which is pretty big but I graduated high school in a class of 28 people so I understand the small town feel and speaking of graduations Congrats on your upcoming one. One last thing, I love love love the pictures or your dogs!

  4. Hey, Sarah, nice to meet you! First of all, I think it's funny that you tell people that you're from Paris, leaving out the Texas part. Second of all, I really admire that you switched your major! Some people decide their major isn't right for them, but they stick it out anyway (and those people are usually unhappy with what they do.) But, it sounds like you are now doing what you love to, will enjoy grad school, and enjoy your future career!

  5. Hi again, Sarah! I know you are bouncing back and forth between blogs (thank you for making them look so different!), and I happened to get to your India blog first for the Intro, so I left the comment there! Here's a link: comment link :-)

  6. Congratulations on graduating this semester! I will be graduating as well (thank goodness!). I can relate to having your degree affect your thoughts outside of school. I am a philosophy major and it constantly (and sometimes irritatingly) works its way into nearly every thought that I have. I am glad that you will be continuing on to another degree. We can always use more councilors, especially for children. You must be a very compassionate and very strong person.

Thank you for sharing a little info about yourself! I look forward to reading your story.

  7. Great to "meet" you Sarah! I thought it was so funny how you started out with "howdy ya'll" as I too am from Texas although I have not lived there my whole life! Congratulations on your pending graduation in May and on switching your degree to sociology! That sounds so interesting and I love that you are so passionate about it!!

  10. Nice to meet you Sarah! I too am from Texas but I'm from Fort Worth. I love southern accents because they remind me of home. Do you get to visit it often? Your dogs are so cute! That's really creative that you named one Tex and one Okie since you house is divide. I bet even though y'all are rivals you still have fun with it. I can only imagine how crazy OU/Texas at your household is! Sociology is such a cool topic! I considered going into it but chose PR instead. I bet you will really touch some lives through the social work you'll be doing.

  11. Hi Sarah!
How cool that you are from Paris! I have never been there, but hope to go someday, both to the one in Texas and the one in France. Your doggies are so cute. Golden Retrievers are my all time favorite breed of dogs. They are so kind and gentle.
Have so much fun in Ireland this summer! What a great trip to have.
Best wishes to you this semester and in your future!

It is nice to meet you! I am so jealous of your trip to Ireland! It is somewhere I have always wanted to go! Not to mention as an added bonus I already speak their language! What was your favorite thing about Ireland? I also love your potential photo business name! It is so clever and punny!

  13. Hi Sarah,

It's nice to meet you via online. Sociology is a really cool major. I have quite a few friends who study it and I am always asking them questions about what they are learning in class. Your dogs are absolutely adorable! We have something in common: my favorite food is spaghetti too! Always has been and always will be. Anyways, looking forward to reading your stories in this class!

  14. Sarah,

It’s nice to meet you! I think that is hilarious that Paris, TX has an Eiffel tower with a cowboy hat. Congratulations on your upcoming graduation, that is big time and best of luck in graduate school. That will be so fun to study abroad in Ireland. I’ve always wanted to go because it looks so beautiful. I don’t know if I have ever heard of anyone’s favorite food being spaghetti, but I’m sure you’ve tried the meatball house on campus corner. I’ve heard good things about it. Best of luck for this last undergrad semester!

  15. You seem like a very happy, bubbly person and I find that absolutely wonderful! I also enjoyed the photo of Paris, Tx (hehe), it was rather cute. I’m graduating this year, as well. Well, I won’t be finished till the end of the year, but I will be going to graduation ceremonies in May. My household is also split (for the most part) only between OSU and OU. Thankfully, OU wins by a mile (Thank goodness, because those oranges are crazy, jk jk). Photo editing is one of the most relaxing and fun things to do, I recently bought a camera and I’m looking to start taking photos again, I used to all the time in high school. Anyways, it’s really nice to meet you!

  16. It is nice to meet you Sarah! I have never understood why so many Texans grow up Sooner fans, but I’m glad to have you on our side! I love your golden retrievers! That’s nice that they have lived for so long. Studying abroad is so much fun! I went to Peru last summer and had a blast. I hope you enjoy it!

  17. Hi Sarah! Can we be new best friends?? My best friend is named Sara. I am planning on going to grad school in Texas, and my boyfriend made me spaghetti on our first date! I think it is super awesome that you have dogs that you have grown up with. I have a dog that I got in third grade and is still alive. He has almost died like four times and has came back to life, I swear. It was awesome to meet you!

  18. Hey there Sara! Ha, let’s be buds. we can just watch movies, tell jokes and then say, “get it?”, and eat spaghetti. That sounds like the perfect day! I love your plans for your major, Social Work is a special kind of job. My boyfriend has his undergraduate in it and is currently in grade school. Prepare for Saturday classes!

  19. Hey Sarah, nice to meet you,

I'm also from Texas! Well, Dallas- city boy, I know. But I still say 'y'all'

Your dogs are adorable, and I love the thematic naming. I've always wanted to have two dogs (or alternatively a dog and a cat) and name them Buddha and Pest (Like Budapest).

Sociology has always interested me, but I have yet to take any classes in it! Maybe I should change that, eh? What have been some of your favorite classes you've taken as a part of your major? So cool that your job will allow you to actively help people AND get paid to do it!

Looking forward to reading your story from this week!

  22. Hi Sarah,

I've noticed that there are quite a few people from Texas. I myself am from the panhandle of Texas. I even spent four years living in Happy, Texas. They only have a population of just over 500 people! I love your two dogs. They are so old and I hope they have many more years to be loved by you and your family. Well, it was nice to meet you and congratulations on the upcoming graduation. Good luck in grad school.
